Won’t education increase awareness and thereby protect the next generation?
Social media aware
It is true that more people are becoming aware of the dangers of some applications of AI like Social Media but they are deliberately exploiting our vulnerabilities, especially of the younger generation.
Hidden dangers
There are many other applications of AI that are hidden, such as their use in credit checking and building a profile of you from your internet activity. Data sets used to train AI algorithms are likely always biased, even if the developers don’t intend it, giving rise to injustices. Education is therefore unlikely to be sufficient to protect citizens, in the same way that advice on the dangers of drug use or smoking are inadequate of themselves.
